Dr. Mirco Oswald
Curriculum Vitae
Micro Oswald (born 1985) completed a certified apprenticeship as an ensemble leader in Bad Königshofen and proceeded to study Musicology and Philosophy in Heidelberg, Saarbrücken and Paris. He assisted in various editorial and research projects during his studies. He has freelanced in music education, music engraving, composing and conducting.
In 2011, he won the audience award “Die Welt hochwerfen” for his one of his compositions, he also won two scholarships: from the Hochschule für Jüdische Studien and Breitkopf & Härtel, a music publishing house. He has been a fellow of the research training group “Model Romantik ” since October 2018.

The continual effect of the romantic as seen in the musical compositions of John Williams
The research training group’s approach to the term ” romantic ” is that it is not only the name of a period but of a model that continues to influence various aspects beyond its constitutive era. Any exploration of the crucial properties of historical and romantic music must include musical analyses of romantic symphonies and the aesthetic of the music of its time. The analysis of the sheet-music allows for an objective perusal of the technicalities of composing whereas the aesthetic is instrumental for their interpretation and to weight what would be indeterminate data. The project would, therefore, compare the properties thus analysed to those of music of the more recent past.
By examining the film score of John Williams, the project seeks to investigate the extent to which particular attributes that have been identified as essential to historical and romantic music, continue to influence the present age.
The technical aspects of music composition and their conventions as well as the use of modelling in stylistic copying and musical quotations will be utilised in this comparison.
